Project Description
The team is building an internal platform for software product developers to accelerate the development and delivery of software products to tackle the massive challenges facing the energy sector. The Platform is a service oriented, cloud-native platform that is being built to provide application teams with self-service capabilities to develop, run and operate their software products. Platform provides services for application infrastructure, data, service lifecycle management, application build and delivery as well as services to operate their software products. The Platform is deployed as a hybrid cloud, encompassing both private cloud and select public clouds.
The focus is on providing products and services that empower Engineering and Operations teams
under the program, supporting the needs of Product Engineering. The Platform Team is committed to delivering,
managing, and optimizing essential DevOps tools, which facilitate seamless continuous integration (CI), continuous
development (CD), and delivery across the platform and its services.
Build and operate core engineering products and services
Objective: Operating and maintaining shared platform products such as GitLab, TestRail, Harbor, Tofu Controller, and Config Manager
Tasks:
• Ensuring availability, reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle management of these services
• Support bootstrapping of new environments and ensure consistent baseline configurations
• Standardize and automate product provisioning, upgrades, backups, monitoring, and recovery procedures
• Troubleshoot incidents and coordinate sustainable fixes across platform and product teams
• Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and service standards
Enable product teams through self-service platform capabilities
Objective: Provide self-service platform capabilities that allow product teams to configure, consume, and operate GitOps-based and CI/CD-based services efficiently and with minimal friction.
Tasks:
• Develop and improve operator-facing platform products, especially Config Manager
• Enable teams to onboard and use shared services through standardized workflows and automation
• Support and improve GitOps-based product configuration and delivery patterns
• Work closely with internal users to improve usability, adoption, and service experience
• Translate platform requirements into productized, reusable service capabilities
Strengthen the CI toolchain with integrated security and supply chain capabilities
Objective: Enhance the CI/CD toolchain with integrated security, compliance, and software supply chain capabilities.
Tasks:
• Implement and maintain capabilities such as OSS scanning, security scanning, artifact signing, and policy enforcement
• Integrate these capabilities into the shared CI toolchain and deployment workflows
• Improve automation around build, test, release, and deployment processes
• Support secure and compliant software delivery through reusable platform patterns
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, governance, and automation
Profile Requirements
The contractor must be at a middle level with following experience:
Must-have experience
• Proven experience building, operating, and improving internal platform products or shared engineering services
• Strong hands-on experience with GitLab administration and operations in larger environments
• Experience with CI/CD platform engineering, including pipeline enablement, runner concepts, and shared build/deployment services
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally OpenTofu / Terraform
• Experience operating or integrating tooling such as artifact registries, test management tools, and deployment controllers
• Experience with environment bootstrapping, standard platform setup, and service onboarding
• Experience designing and maintaining reliable, supportable shared services, including backup/recovery, monitoring, upgrades, and lifecycle management
• Experience integrating security scanning, OSS/software composition analysis, artifact signing, or related software supply chain controls into CI/CD workflows
• Strong scripting and automation skills for platform operations and service integration
• Ability to work closely with stakeholders and internal users to translate needs into reusable platform capabilities
• Strong documentation and communication skills in an engineering platform context
Must-have language skills
• Fluent English (spoken and written, at least B2 level)
• Fluent German (spoken and written, at least C1 level)
Preferred experience
• Experience with Harbor or comparable container/artifact registry platforms
• Experience with TestRail or similar test management solutions
• Experience with deployment orchestration / controller-based deployment tooling
• Experience building operator-facing products or self-service platform interfaces
• Familiarity with software supply chain security practices and standards
• Experience with artifact signing, provenance, or attestations
• Experience in regulated or critical infrastructure environments
• Experience with policy-as-code and governance controls in engineering platforms
• Experience with Kubernetes-based platform operations, where relevant to the service landscape
• Familiarity with multi-team platform adoption, internal enablement, and product-style service evolution
